Jeff,
I'm only 5'10", 200 lbs, but I don't feel cramped/underpowered in the least. Depending on your height, you might find the pegs too close- they're actually at the leading edge of the frame (see background drawing), but the bike is compact. There are some easy solutions to the peg thing, though. Hell, take a test ride at your dealer (watch out though, the Savage may posses you and force you to immediately buy it and then spend hours posting stuff to this forum!), that's what hooked me. I was planning on spending $2000 on a used bike. I got a new '99, put $2,000 down, and I'm financing less than $85 a month- definitely economical!
If you want to save some $, take Hogryder's advice and find a used one (no break-in period, cheaper, don't have to deal with "maintaining warranty eligibility", etc...).
Whatever you do though, I'd encourage you to stay on the forum. Good folks here....
KTRSD!
-Jim
